Archaic Pit House

For the past two weeks we have been working at a archaic site out on the dunes. At first we thought that this site was going to be the normal archaic site with lithics, fuanal bone, and a thermal feature. But we got a very big surprise; we found a pit house. Finding one that old almost never happens-- finding one in the dunes that is even a bigger surprise. Sorry that pics that I have are not the best but you can see the out line of the pit house (it is the grey moundy stuff.) After 4000 thousand years there is not much left.
This pic is washed out but is shows the whole site. The way that we found this site was the black ash stain that we found in the trench that was dug by a backhoe. So far it has been really interesting to see what we find every site is different. Some day I might post about some of the other things that we have found at other sites. But for now this will have to do.

Archeology is cool. For many years as a kid I wanted to be one.

Your blogs are good. I am still struggling to get control of the blogging process.
