Today I was a bad girl and skipped church in order to go to the Mosque up in SLC for my Humanities of Islam class. Today was Sunday school for them where they teach the young children Arabic and lessons about the Koran. We had a good time meeting with the woman and learning what many of them felt about Islam and there culture growing up in America. It was a different experience- as we all had to wear a hajab and none of us knew how to wear one, but the ladies were very welcoming and answered all of our questions. I will need to go to the Mosque in the future to finish writing my paper but to day was a good start to get to know the people and learn more about their religion. In the picture Me; my speaking patner, Gini; Natalie, my old roommate; and Katie, the other archeaologist in the Arabic program.

Now that is an interesting picture. Muslim culture and religion is so convultuted to me. There seems to be no common Kannon and interpretation . . . it all depends on who you are talking to. Maybe, Emily can figure it all out and teach me.
